We are tracking all of the 2025 Detroit Lions NFL transactions, including 53-man roster moves, signings, trades and players on practice squad.
The Detroit Lions are done with their roster cuts, but aren't done making moves.
The Lions cut their roster all the way down to 50 players at the deadline on Tuesday, Aug. 26, three below the 53-player maximum. They will surely fill that out before the season kicks off on Sunday, Sept. 7, against the Green Bay Packers and have already started making moves.
Early Wednesday morning, the Lions traded veteran receiver Tim Patrick to the Jacksonville Jaguars for a sixth-round pick to make room for rookie Isaac TeSlaa and also picked up veteran safety Daniel Thomas after he was waived by the Jaguars.
All in all, it should be a busy few days for the Lions with players who were waived becoming available on Wednesday and also decisions to make to fill out the roster.
Here are the notable signings and moves made by the Lions:
Detroit Lions trades, signings and roster moves
Lions trade Tim Patrick to Jaguars
After a successful bounce-back season with the Lions in 2024, Tim Patrick has been traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars for a sixth-round pick.
Patrick was signed right before the start of the 2024 season after he was cut. He didn't play in either the 2022 or 2023 season because of injuries, but was an impactful weapon, providing size the Lions desperately needed.
Patrick struggled this preseason and with third-round pick Isaac TeSlaa providing the size the Lions need, Patrick proved expendable.
Lions to sign former Jaguars safety Daniel Thomas
The Lions decided to go very light in the secondary, keeping just two safeties after the initial round of cuts.
That quickly changed when they agreed to sign former Jaguars safety Daniel Thomas.
Thomas was a core special teams player for Jacksonville in each of his first five NFL seasons and bolsters the Lions' depth at one of their thinnest positions. His signing will become official once he passes a physical.
Lions practice squad 2025
With roster cuts done, the Lions' practice squad is starting to solidify itself. Many of the players the Lions waived will be key parts of their practice squad, which coach Dan Campbell has made a point of saying will play a crucial role throughout the season.
Here are the moves we're tracking:
- Wide receiver Tom Kennedy
- Center Trystan Colon
The Lions are re-signing both C Trystan Colon and WR Tom Kennedy to the practice squad. Couple vets who were with the team all summer.
