49ers' Christian McCaffrey injury outlook set to determine key San Francisco stat

This is a crucial time in the Bay Area.

Christian McCaffrey, San Francisco 49ers

Christian McCaffrey is healthy right now.

That's about as important as it gets for the San Francisco 49ers.

The update feels relevant now because of a statistic shared on Fox's First Things First on Tuesday.

Danny Parkins brought this up when speaking about McCaffrey and the 49ers: San Francisco is 27-10 in the CMC era when he plays in a game.

Last season, McCaffrey hardly played. He first had an Achilles problem, then encountered a PCL issue in his knee.

Now, all appears to be A-OK.

NBC Sports Bay Area reporter Matt Maiocco shared with insider Ari Meirov early this month a summary that should make all 49ers fans smile:

"He looks like Christian McCaffrey."

When McCaffrey is right, he's hard to stop.

Two seasons ago, McCaffrey was the best running back in football. He led the NFL with 1,459 rushing yards, scored 14 touchdowns, and also caught 67 passes for 564 yards and seven more TDs.

But last season, McCaffrey only got on the field for four games. He carried 50 times for 202 yards (4.0 ypc) and had 15 catches for 146 yards.

He wasn't the only injury problem for the 49ers, but he was one of the biggest, and San Francisco scuffled to a 6-11 record.

There really haven't been any concerned words all offseason out of coaches or leaders for the 49ers about McCaffrey's injury. They all expect him back and at his best.

If that really happens, and if he stays out there, McCaffrey will make San Francisco a very tough team to beat.
