The Los Angeles Chargers have cut running back Raheim Sanders.
Chargers' most surprising cut (so far) comes at running back position originally appeared on The Sporting News
As the news of each of the roster cuts made by the Los Angeles Chargers trickles in, the most surprising name on the list, at least to this point, is that of undrafted running back Raheim Sanders.
Sanders, nicknamed "The Rocket" was a hot name coming to the team as an undrafted free agent out of South Carolina. Many fans saw him as an early dark horse to make the roster. The summer got off to a slow start as Sanders missed some early practices in training camp with an injury, but he quickly regained his status as a name to watch when he was able to get out on the field.
Sanders was the team's leading rusher in the preseason and it looked like he had done enough to make the team. It appeared that he would be taking a roster spot away from Kimani Vidal, chosen in the sixth round of last year's draft.
But after sitting down and hammering out a list of 53 players, Joe Hortiz and Jim Harbaugh decided to go with Vidal in favor of Sanders. It will be seen as a controversial decision.

The Chargers also made the decision to activate Najee Harris off the NFI (Non-Football Injury) List, a sign that he will be ready to go in Week 1. Harris and Omarion Hampton will see most of the snaps on offense this season, with No. 3 running back Hassan Haskins also contributing on special teams. Vidal will likely play the role he had last year, which saw him as a frequent gameday inactive.

If Harris had not been ready to go to start the season, there is a chance the Chargers would have gone in another direction. They clearly feel the depth they have is deep enough. Sanders will be a likely addition to the practice squad if he's not grabbed by another team on waivers.
