It felt like football out by The Res on Tuesday morning and energy was as high as its been all summer.

The first game week of 2025 is finally here and the Eagles were loud and fast during practice, particularly early on. While it wasn’t always perfect, you can tell the team is certainly ready to see another jersey on Saturday.

Here’s a quick recap instead of the usual play-by-play since it was sort of a light day:

Early observations

Everyone we were worried about last week is back in the mix. Given how intense camp was at times, BC is in really good shape heading into the opener.

Jude Bowry is a captain for a reason. Loudest guy on the field during stretching and warmups. One of many vocal/emotional leaders this team has throughout the roster at various positions.

Good amount of scout team work

Obviously, the Eagles now have an eye towards an actual opponent in Fordham, so there was a healthy amount of scout team work for the offense and defense. Although, it’s hard to know just how similar an FCS team will look compared to its 2024 roster and scheme, which always makes the first game a bit tricky. Still, talent should outweigh almost anything the Rams can throw at the Eagles this weekend.

Deep ball improvement

Over the last few practices (there was one the media didn’t see), deep balls from both Lonergan and James weren’t always accurate and were overthrown. The script was flipped since the last time we were out there, because both guys had some great connections to Reed Harris and Jaedn Skeete throughout various periods. Luke McLaughlin was also all over the place a couple days after being voted a captain. Really looking forward to seeing this offense in true action.

Punting

Andy Quinn and the returners could single handily change some outcomes on their own this season. I genuinely believe that. Bill O’Brien noted he was very pleased with the punting in his post-practice press conference as well.

Two more days of work

BC is back at it at 9:30 on Wednesday and Thursday morning. It’ll be interesting to see if either of the two days are a bit more physical, or if this is all about just getting towards Saturday before cutting it loose.
