Pittsburgh Steelers listed among top landing spots for disgruntled $33M wide receiver

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a need at wide receiver and the Las Vegas Raiders have a good wide receiver who has requested a trade. That led to one analyst naming the Steelers as a possible landing spot for him.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a new wide receiver to target on the trade market.

According to reports, Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers has requested a trade. He and the Raiders remain in a standstill in contract talks as the veteran enters the final year of his three-year, $33 million contract.

Rapoport adds that the Raiders have no intention of trading Meyers, and that's understandable given how important the 28-year-old is to the offense.

That said, never say never to anything in the NFL, and that's exactly the approach that CBS Sports' John Breech is taking. He suggested some of the top potential landing spots for Meyers if he gets traded and the Steelers were one of them.

The Steelers have already added two weapons via trade this year -- DK Metcalf and Jonnu Smith -- and you could make a strong argument they need to add one more for Aaron Rodgers. The Steelers don't really have a reliable receiver behind Metcalf, so the addition of Meyers could do wonders. It would give the Steelers a true No. 2 receiving threat, which would likely take some pressure off Metcalf. Meyers finished with over 1,000 receiving yards last season while catching passes from Aidan O'Connell and Gardner Minshew, and he could probably improve that number with Rodgers as his quarterback.

The Steelers have a clear need for an established No. 2 receiver, as their top candidates for that job, Roman Wilson and Calvin Austin, don't fit the bill.

Meyers is as consistent as they come. He has four-straight seasons with 800 yards or more and is fresh off a career year when he broke the 1,000-yard mark for the first time.

Bear in mind, Meyers has been catching passes from the likes of Mac Jones, Brian Hoyer, Bailey Zappe, Jimmy Garoppolo, Aidan O'Connell, Gardner Minshew and Desmond Ridder in that span, so simply listing his stats don't do him justice.

Meyers also brings versatility with his ability to line up on the boundary and in the slot, so he won't block Wilson from getting snaps.

While Meyers wants an extension, chances are the Steelers wouldn't have to give him one. Meyers didn't hold out this offseason amid his desire for a new contract and isn't going to sit out regular season games if he doesn't get what he wants.

That's important to note because the Steelers probably aren't keen on handing out big money to another wide receiver after paying DK Metcalf earlier this offseason.

If the Raiders do put Meyers on the trade block, the Steelers should absolutely pounce. However, we'd be shocked if Meyers ends up getting moved.
