Tommy Cutlets gets his fate.
Giants make Tommy DeVito roster decision on NFL cutdown day originally appeared on The Sporting News
Just because it was clearly coming doesn't make it any less of a bummer for New York Giants fans of their spunky quarterback, Tommy DeVito.
He was released on Tuesday as part of the NFL's roster cutdown day, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.
DeVito, known affectionally as Tommy Cutlets, was the fourth quarterback on a team that was only ever going to keep three.
When the Giants brought in the trio of Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston and Jaxson Dart in the offseason, the writing was always on the wall. Unless someone got hurt, DeVito was a goner.
He still did his best to make a case for himself.
In the Giants' final preseason game, DeVito went 15-for-17 passing for 184 yards and three touchdowns.
"There is a spot for him in this league," wrote ESPN's Jordan Raanan on X.
It just won't be with the Giants.
DeVito spent his college career at Syracuse and then Illinois.
In the NFL, he has started eight games and has a 3-5 record.
DeVito has completed a solid 65.3% of his regular season pass attempts while throwing eight touchdowns compared to three interceptions. He has also run 44 times for 227 yards and another TD.
It's not all perfect, but DeVito is a backup-level NFL quarterback who can step in in a pinch and make some plays.
The Giants didn't leave themselves room to keep him.
Someone else in the NFL will soon have found themselves a loveable, talented second-string quarterback.
