The Jayhawks did not get much of a rest as they prepare for a Friday game against Wagner. The players left the facility late Saturday night and were back on the practice field Sunday. Kansas head coach Lance Leipold said it is a short week and they have to prepare for it.

“We had a practice last night,” Leipold said. “We had to bring them in yesterday afternoon. Usually Sunday’s our day off and put the game to rest. They got a lift in, had our meetings, took the field around 6:00 and for a short practice.”

He did not notice any effects from playing the night before. With the different schedule the team will get Saturday off after the Wagner game.

“I thought they moved around pretty well, considering and the soreness and all those things,” he said. “And then today, I thought they moved around better than I probably anticipated. Got a lot to clean up and get ready in the game plan, but I like the attitude. So, everything’s kind of a day ahead. And then Saturday will be their day off for the week.”

Miller, Graham could return

The team was without some players who did not dress and others who were knicked up during the game.

Running back Leshon Williams left and did not return after rushing for 57 yards on six carries and a touchdown. The transfer from Iowa’s status is in question for the Wagner game. Williams was at practice yesterday but was not a full-go.

“He was out there yesterday doing a little,” Leipold said. “It’ll still be questionable or doubtful. We’ll see with him.”

Others like defensive end Dean Miller did not play as well as linebacker Joseph Sipp Jr. Leipold talked about their status among others. There is a good chance Miller could return Friday.

“Dean practiced today and I’m feeling like he should be available,” Leipold said. “Gage Keys is probably still out. Jack Schneider will still be out. Dylan Brooks will be out. David Abajian will be out for the season.”

Cornerback D.J. Graham did not play and was slowed during fall camp. He is getting more reps in practice and according to D.K. McDonald.

“He’s doing a good job,” McDonald said of Graham. “I think we’ll see him out there this week ready to rock and roll, and that’d be good. Add some more depth to our cornerback position, which we need, and add more competition.”
