Penn State wrestling will hit the road at least twice during the non-conference portion of its 2025-2026 schedule. Wyomingannounced on Monday that it will host the Lions on Dec. 13 of this year. It marks the end of a two-year agreement between the two schools. The Cowboys came to State College last year. And now the Lions return the favor.
“I didn’t realize that we haven’t faced them, so that’s pretty cool,” Penn State associate head coach Cody Sanderson said in 2024. “And frankly, we were trying to find a date, and I just couldn’t find any other opponents. An acquaintance of mine said, ‘hey, what about Wyoming?’ I know he reached out and got back to us right away. Said, yeah. let’s work it out. And we’re really excited to get a team in here from out west. And we’re working on getting back up there next year.”
Unsurprisingly, Wyoming will try to sell out its 11,612-seat Arena-Auditorium. That’s home to its basketball programs and different than the regular home wrestling venue.
“This year’s schedule will be challenging, but it should prepare us well for the NCAA Championships in Cleveland,” Wyoming coach Mark Branch said. “Hosting Penn State will be a great opportunity for the state of Wyoming, and our guys will get a chance to see the best team in the last decade in our home arena.”
Who else will Penn State wrestle this year?
So far, we know a few dates. Penn State wrestles at Drexel in Sun., Dec. 5. And, it will host Oklahoma on Nov. 14. That will very likely be the season opener. We also expect that the Lions will return to the Army Black Knight Invitational early in the year. And, a return to the multi-match Journeymen Classic could be in the cards, as well.
Date and times for more non-conference match and Big Ten duals will come out at a later date. Here’s who Penn State wrestles in conference action:
Home Big Ten duals: Ohio State, Nebraska, Indiana, and Rutgers.
Away Big Ten duals: Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, and Northwestern.
