Jerry Jones has made no secret about where he stands with David Mulugheta. Jones does not want to work with him on the Micah Parsons contract. Instead, he attempted to work directly with the player earlier in the year, something that caused the current ongoing tension.

At least one player is fed up with how the entire situation is unfolding. Pro Football Hall of Fame cornerback Darrelle Revis released a statement on Monday evening calling out Jones for his actions. Revis does not appear too thrilled with the NFL Players Association either, wanting them to provide some kind of response.

“As payers, after every game we don’t get a choice,” Revis said in a statement. “We’re put in front of the media and held accountable. Win or lose, missed tackle of game-saving play, it doesn’t matter — we have to answer. That’s part of the job. And that’s why it’s unacceptable to see our union leadership avoid that same responsibility now.

“My question last week about a recent ESPN article remains unanswered, and now Jerry Jones feels comfortable publicly humiliating our union. I don’t know if filing a grievance is necessarily the right battle at this moment, since the fine to him under the CBA amounts to pennies.

“But doing nothing is not an option.

“At the very least, the NFLPA should be saying it does not condone what Jerry is doing, that all options are on the table, and reminding players that if ownership ever tries to deal with them directly while represented, they should contact their agent and the union immediately.

“The bigger issue is respect. Jerry’s actions show that owners have no problem taking advantage of us, and when our union fails to respond, it sends the message that they’ll be able to do the same in the next CBS negotiations if the current leadership remains in place.

“Every player — past, present, and future — deserves a union they can trust to protect them and support them.”

Revis did not directly work with Jones during his playing days. He is most well-known for his incredible performances with the New York Jets. Only once did Revis even suit up for an NFC team, spending the 2013 season in Tampa Bay with the Buccaneers.

However, NFL players commonly have each other’s backs — especially the elite ones. Revis is looking after Parsons and anyone else who might enter a similar scenario in the coming years.

Jerry Jones unwilling to work with agent to lock down Micah Parsons

Jones’ unwillingness to work with Mulgheta is not based on reports. The Cowboys owner/general manager has not been afraid to give his honest opinion when speaking to the media. Just the latest came when sitting down with ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith for an interview.

“Because a third party, rather than me and Micah, has got to come in — why, because he’s got to get his fingerprints on it? C’mon, please,” Jones said. “He’s got to get his fingerprints on it? … There’s no need for him to come into this agreement except to look at all the details of the agreement and all the fine print and all of that.”

When Parsons publicly requested a trade, he made it clear he wanted Mulgheta involved in the talks. For now, no movement has come from either side. All this just days before the season opener on Sept. 4 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
