The attack on Smith occurred on Saturday, Aug. 23 during an independent wrestling match, where minors were present for the frightening moment when Smith was knocked unconscious by Raja Jackson, the son of former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.

Jackson, 25, continued punching the motionless Smith multiple times in the head at the Knokx Pro Wrestling event in Los Angeles. The incident was captured live on the streaming platform Kick.

Jackson was eventually held back by a group of other wrestlers in the ring before exiting the venue, where he continued to livestream the aftermath of the incident. He was seen screaming and shouting profanities as his cameraman attempted to calm him down.

Raja’s violent outbreak allegedly stemmed from a heated exchange between him and Smith that was seen in earlier footage. Smith, a former veteran who has spoken about how wrestling has helped him overcome PTSD, appeared to slam a canned drink at Raja’s head before the match.

After the incident, his father "Rampage" Jackson addressed the incident in a statement on X. “Raja was unexpectedly hit in the side of the head by him moments before Smith’s match. Raja was told that he could get his ‘payback’ in the ring, I thought it was a part of the show,” the 47-year-old former UFC star wrote. “It was bad judgment, and a work that went wrong."

“Raja is an MMA fighter, not a pro wrestler and had no business being involved in an event like this,” Rampage continued. “I don’t condone my son’s actions AT ALL! He suffered a concussion from sparring only days ago and had no business doing anything remotely close to physical contact.”

“As a father, I'm deeply concerned with his health AND the well-being of Mr. Smith .. I’m very upset that any of this happened, but my main concern now is that Mr. Smith will make a speedy recovery,” Rampage concluded.
