This is a good signing, don’t get us wrong. Eze is among the most creative and intelligent forwards in the Premier League. In a different window, Liverpool could well have had him.

Signing a peak-age England international playmaker should do a lot for Mikel Arteta’s side - especially given the problems they’ve had down the left side of their attack.
🔴
And let’s not forget he’s a former Arsenal youth. He played there until the age of 13 before being released and forging his path elsewhere.
There is a sense of destiny about this move - even if the Gunners had to pay a £67.5m premium for their own academy product.
Arsenal copy Chiesa chant
But somehow - even in the midst of such an impressive transfer - Arsenal fans have managed to embarrass themselves.
Eze had a mural near the Arsenal ground before his signing from Crystal Palace was even confirmed. That was desperate.
And then came the chant which - to Liverpool ears - will have been very familiar.
There has been a lot of talk about the Federico Chiesa chant in the last week or so. Some fans have queried whether the content of the final line is appropriate - given what happened at Heysel. And that’s fine, have a debate.
But Arsenal have LIFTED the song wholesale and given it to Eze. Instead of Juve they have used their rivalry with Tottenham for the payoff.
Is there anything original about this club?
Arsenal's habit of copying Liverpool
Even the official Arsenal social media announcement about Eze’s transfer included the line “it was only ever Arsenal”.
That is eerily close to the “It was always Liverpool” that our club used for the Virgil van Dijk contract renewal. And you can add this chant to their pile of counterfeits that also includes our Luis Diaz song as well as Allez, Allez, Allez.
Imitation, as they say, is the sincerest form of flattery. But of course this exposes a sad lack of originality.

Arsenal simply cannot match us
There’s plenty of reason for Arsenal to want to be Liverpool. For a start, they are the best team in England. Mikel Areta has spent - and continues to spend - money now into the BILLIONS just to come second behind Arne Slot.
And still that spending spree hasn’t been enough.
Eze joins as an FA Cup and a Community Shield winner - placing him among the most decorated players at a club that have failed to win a significant prize since 2020.
And then there’s Liverpool Football Club as a cultural touchstone. There is an authenticity about the club and the community that can never be beaten.
It will take more than a ripped-off chant for Arsenal to match up to Liverpool any time soon. But keep trying.
