Atlético Madrid set an unwanted record with draw vs Elche

La Liga heavyweights Atlético Madrid on Saturday secured for themselves an unwanted recent piece of club history.

As much comes owing to their disappointing stalemate with newly-promoted Elche.

Diego Simeone’s troops marked their return to action yesterday evening, welcoming Elche to Spain’s capital for a gameweek 2 La Liga clash.

And despite taking the lead within the opening 10 minutes at the Metropolitano, Atléti were ultimately forced to settle for a share of the spoils.

This comes after Alexander Sørloth’s opener was cancelled out decisively by Rafa Mir at the other end.

As much means that the Rojiblancos have not managed a victory in either of their first two outings of the term, following an opening day defeat at the hands of Espanyol.

And as alluded to above, such woes have given rise to an altogether unwanted statistic for Atlético.

As reveald by journalist Pedro Fullana of SER:

‘This is the first time since Simeone’s arrival that they have earned just one point in the first two league matchdays.’
