David Pollack predicts Notre Dame will play multiple quarterbacks

College football analyst David Pollack predicted Notre Dame will use multiple quarterbacks this year, despite announcing CJ Carras the starter. Carr won a razor thin battle with Kenny Minchey during training camp.

With the way Pollack sees it, Carr and Minchey have their own unique skillsets. But Notre Dame will only go as far as one or both QBs take them this season.

They have a chance to reload and get back to the College Football Playoff with a very talented roster. But can they rely on two quarterbacks to get it done or ultimately roll with Carr?

“(CJ Carr’s) a redshirt freshman, more of the passing guy. Kenny Minchey was the guy that was a little bit more of a dual threat,” Pollack said on See Ball Get Ball. “I think with Notre Dame, that’s good. We’re going to see multiple guys. I think you’re going to see both of them. I’m interested to see how this goes regardless. Because Notre Dame, very experienced, got a bunch of good guys. We know their offensive line is going to be good, the quarterback’s going to decide the season. And they don’t have time to break them in right away and go, ‘Yeah, you’re going to be great. You’re going to be great.’ Game one, you play Miami. Game three, you play A&M, like, they’ve got to come out the gates, you know, solid. So I think we’ll see both of these guys. I really do.” 

Coming off a championship loss, Carr has a lot on his shoulders as he takes over the QB1 role. The Fighting Irish are expected to compete for the ultimate prize year in and year out at this point.

“This is a prove it year for Notre Dame and for everybody around the country,” Pollack said. “We’ve seen Notre Dame get to a championship before … but can they do the reload thing that the big powerhouses in the sport do every single year? Notre Dame’s got a chance to prove that to everybody and be like, ‘All right, you shut up. you shut up you shut up.’”

Carr arrived at Notre Dame last season as a touted recruit. The grandson of former Michigan national champion coach Lloyd Carr, he sat behind Riley Leonard and Steve Angeli on the depth chart last season. But Angeli transferred to Syracuse after the spring game, making it a two-man race for Notre Dame’s starting job.

Carr appeared in just one game a season ago after arriving on campus as a four-star prospect. He was the No. 68 overall player and No. 6-ranked quarterback from the 2024 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, an equally weighted average that utilizes all three major recruiting services.
