The process of selecting the final 53-man roster is heating up throughout the NFL. For the Saints, the three quarterbacks are set, but the difficult task remains: deciding who will start under center. Jake Haener is the definite QB3, leaving Spencer Rattler and Tyler Shough to compete for the starting job.

For coach Kellen Moore, the decision will be a tough one. Following Saturday's 28-19 preseason finale loss to the Denver Broncos, Moore outlined how he plans to make the call on the team's QB1.

"Well, certainly I think it's important that we collaborate and talk through this thing," Moore told reporters. "That's an important aspect of this thing. Everyone's got their different perspectives and different exposures. That will be really important. Ultimately, I know I have to make a decision, and it's a challenging one because these guys have put everything into this.

"They've been very, very close. We love this room. We want this room to be together. We know good things will happen to all of these guys as their journey goes on. We will watch it tomorrow, we will navigate it, and we will make a decision early."

Both Rattler and Shough have been competing throughout the preseason, with performances that have yet to clearly separate the two.

In the preseason, Rattler started two games and threw for 295 yards with a completion percentage of 69.7%. He has one touchdown pass and one interception, with no rushing touchdowns.

Shough has started one game, passing for 333 yards with a 67.9% completion rate. He also has one touchdown and one interception, but added a rushing touchdown to his stat line.

The New Orleans Saints open their regular season against the Arizona Cardinals on Sept. 7. Whether Kellen Moore will rely on a player with NFL experience or place his trust in a rookie remains to be seen.
