8 Days to 2025 Purdue Football: CJ Madden and De’Nylon Morrissette

A pair of former Georgia Bulldogs look to show a strong junior season.

#8 – CJ Madden

Defensive End

6’4”, 275 lbs

Junior

Ellenwood, Georgia

Previous School: Georgia

Projection: Starting Defensive End

Just over a week until we welcome back Purdue football and today, we focus on 2 guys who came by way of Georgia. First up is CJ Madden, a former 4-star recruit out of Georgia who spent two seasons with the Bulldogs, playing in 8 games over 2 years, including 7 in his redshirt freshman year. In those 7 games, Madden amassed 3 tackles and following the 2023 season, CJ entered the transfer portal and chose Purdue. CJ’s 2024 season with Purdue did not go as intended as he played in Purdue’s first 3 games before missing the remainder of the season due to injury. This year, Madden will be back and is projected to be a leader on the defensive side of the ball. This is evidenced by him being voted a team captain by his teammates as well him representing Purdue during media days in Las Vegas. We hope the bode of confidence will fuel a successful season for CJ who is looking to record his first sack of this career and have a breakout year.

#8 – De’Nylon Morrissette

Wide Receiver

6’1”, 203 lbs

Junior

Stone Mountain, Georgia

Previous School: Georgia

Projection: Starting Slot Wide Receiver

Our second former Georgia player wearing number 8 is on the offensive side of the ball in De’Nylon Morrissette. Morrissette, a slot receiver was a 4-star recruit out of Georgia in 2022 where he played in 14 games across 2 seasons as a reserve WR for the Bulldogs before transferring to Purdue before the 2024 season. Last season at Purdue, De’Nylon appeared in 11 games for the Boilermakers, making 4 starts while totaling 11 receptions, 106 yards, and 2 touchdowns. Those 2 touchdowns came during the first 2 games of the season against Indiana State and Notre Dame. This season, Morrissette will look to be one of the starting receivers, likely at slot now that Jahmal Edrine is off to Virginia, CJ Smith is at Memphis, and Jaron Tibbs went to Kansas State. The fact of the matter is that De’Nylon Morrissette is one of the few holdovers in the receiver room and has played with the starting quarterback, Ryan Browne last season, albeit not for that long. We don’t imagine the passing offense will look worse this year, so hopefully that is reflected in Morrissette, who like CJ Madden, hopes to break out in year 2 with the Boilers.
