A Chicago Bulls star's future with the team is still up in the air ahead of the 2025-26 NBA season.
The Chicago Bulls have had a relatively eventful offseason so far. Most notably, they traded Lonzo Ball to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Isaac Okoro, and they drafted Noa Essengue with the No. 12 pick. However, there are still some big-time moves Chicago could make by the end of the offseason that will be worth monitoring.
As it stands, Nikola Vucevic remains a potential trade candidate for the Bulls. The USC alum has been the subject of trade rumors for much of the past few years, but he is still in Chicago despite it all. Furthermore, in July, rumors surfaced suggesting that Chicago might buy Vucevic out if they are unable to make a trade happen this summer, though this has since been denied by general manager Marc Eversley.
Recently, Vucevic addressed those rumors, as well as what his playing future may look like, whether it will be in Chicago or elsewhere.
With the upcoming season still a few months away, it might be a while before fans know exactly what Vucevic's future will hold. However, according to the man himself, there is "no doubt" that he will still be with the Bulls at the start of next season, though he was less committal about the following season (h/t Basket USA).
"Yes, I have almost no doubt. That’s the mindset I’m preparing with," Vucevic said about beginning next season with the Bulls. "After that, we’ll see—I don’t know what will happen."
Nikola Vucevic Still Has a Lot Left in the Tank
The Swiss native will turn 35 years old in October, and he has just one year left on his three-year, $60 million contract. However, he has proven time and time again that he can still provide value on the court.
Last season, Vucevic averaged 18.5 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. Additionally, he shot a career-high 53% from the field and a near career-high 40.2% from beyond the arc.
As it stands, it seems likely that Vucevic will remain in Chicago past this summer and into next season. However, if the Bulls do opt to move on from him at some point down the line, there could be a robust market for him as he can still contribute at a high level on the offensive side of the ball. Until then, though, it is fair to assume he will stick with the team as they aim to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2022.
