The Green Bay Packers face some tough decisions when it comes to their wide receiver room — though that’s not necessarily a bad problem to have. One player seemingly on the short end of the stick is Romeo Doubs, especially after he didn’t return to practice once medically cleared.

“The Packers have had plenty of drama in the receiver room. But the issues between Doubs and the Packers go beyond Josh Jacobs demanding a No. 1 receiver during Super Bowl week. At this time one year ago, Doubs was part of a stable of promising pass-catchers, but heading into Saturday’s game, he’s one of the players on Green Bay’s chopping block,” wrote Chris Schad of Dairyland Express. “Doubs also admitted that he decided against returning from the injury in time for joint practices against the Indianapolis Colts last week, saying ‘I made a decision and that’s that,’ according to John Miller of NBC 26 in Green Bay.”

One of the main reasons Doubs might be on the chopping block is the uncertainty surrounding his role this season.

“Doubs, who reportedly had frustrations with his role last season and received a one-game suspension from the Packers, could see an even more unpredictable target share. He's also entering the final year of his contract,” Lombardi Ave’s Freddie Boston wrote.

Despite all the speculation, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur shut down the rumors surrounding Doubs.

“I'd be very shocked if he ever was going anywhere. No, that will not happen," LaFleur told Kay Adams about a potential Doubs trade. "Rome is out there competing and doing everything that we need to see from him. Obviously, he's played a lot of ball for us and at a high level. He's been a great teammate and he goes out there and you can count on him every day."

That seems to settle Doubs’ immediate future — though it might not sit well with him. He could have found more opportunities with another team, but now he’s staying with one that doesn’t seem to have a clearly defined role for him. This could create further tension, but for now, he appears to be a lock to make the roster. And based on LaFleur’s comments, the Packers have no intention of letting him go anytime soon.
