Quarterback Jaxson Dart is going into his rookie season with the New York Giants after being taken with the No. 25 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

He's not expected to be the team's Week 1 starter, though, with the Giants' current depth chart putting Dart as the third-stringer, behind Russell Wilson (No. 1) and Jameis Winston (No. 2).

However, Dart has been solid in the Giants' two preseason games so far, completing 26 of 35 passes for 291 yards and two touchdowns. He also has rushed for 29 yards and one touchdown.

Ole Miss Reacts to Dart's Preseason Numbers

Dart was one of eight players from the Ole Miss Rebels to be selected in the 2025 NFL Draft and one of two first-round selections.

It's clear that the Rebels and their fans are still keeping a close eye on Dart's NFL journey, as evidenced by the team's Monday post of a graphic showcasing his numbers so far, captioned, "Making a strong first impression."

Dart also has caught the attention of head coach Brian Daboll, who said, "He's done a good job for us since he's been here, in every area you could do. Off the field, on the field, leadership, moxie, intelligence."

However, it hasn't been enough for him to steal the Giants' starting role, as Daboll reiterated on Saturday that it's a role expected to be held by Wilson.

Ole Miss Replacing Dart in 2025

With Dart now chasing his NFL dreams with the Giants, head coach Lane Kiffin and the rest of Ole Miss' coaching staff have already found his replacement.

That comes in the form of redshirt sophomore Austin Simmons, who has been with the Rebels since committing to the SEC squad as part of the 2023 recruiting class.

His time on the field has been limited. He has appeared in nine games in 2024, completing 19 of 32 passes for 282 yards, two touchdowns, zero interceptions and a 154 passing efficiency rating.

Simmons will get his first shot at filling Dart's shoes on Aug. 30, when Ole Miss opens its season at home against the Georgia State Panthers.
