Jackson Koivun, who's set to begin his third season at Auburn this fall after making it to the Round of 32 of the 2025 U.S. Amateur, has been named winner of the Mark H. McCormack medal, the United States Golf Association and R&A announced Wednesday.
The McCormack medal is given to the leading male player in the 2025 World Amateur Golf Ranking. Luke Clanton won the award last year.
Koivun receives exemptions into the 2026 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills and the 2026 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale in England, provided he remains amateur.
“It’s a huge honor to win this award. I’m very grateful to everyone who has helped me and it’s a dream come true. It’s a medal every amateur golfer strives for," Koivun said in a release. “It’s in the back of everyone’s head and you just try and fight and keeping playing well. To be able to say I’m a McCormack Medal winner is just really, really cool.”
Koivun has had a dominant first two seasons at Auburn. He has won consecutive SEC medalist honors at the conference championship, and after his freshman season, he was named winner of the Fred Haskins Award, Ben Hogan Award, Jack Nicklaus Award and Phil Mickelson Award while helping the Tigers win their first national championship in school history. This summer, he had three consecutive top-11 finishes on the PGA Tour and will represent the United States on the Walker Cup team at Cypress Point in September.
“Jackson has shown that he is a force in the amateur game and we’re proud to see him accept this honour and reap the benefits of all that comes with it,” John Bodenhamer, Chief Championships Officer at the USGA, said in a release. “All of us at the USGA look forward to watching him compete at Cypress Point in a few weeks and know he’ll be a presence in our championships for years to come.”
