Detroit Lions defensive back Morice Norris suffered a scary injury in preseason Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons, but it appears he's on the comeback trail.
After getting checked out at the hospital following the Aug. 8 game, Norris was released and rejoined the team, although he remains in the concussion protocol.
"We're going to take it nice and easy here to make sure he's good over the next 10 to 14 days and reassess," head coach Dan Campbell said of Norris. "That's good news."
We got our latest update on Norris on Tuesday, and it was a great one.
Morice Norris injury update
According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press on Tuesday, Norris made his first appearance at a Lions practice since his injury and was doing a "pretty thorough workout with a Lions trainer."
"Norris went through a pretty thorough workout with a Lions trainer during the team's individual and group periods. He ran in the end zone and did backpedal drills on the field, while wearing a helmet and full pads, and at one point was hunched over catching his breath in the middle of the workout," Birkett wrote.
"Norris remains in concussion protocol and did not talk to reporters, but after his workout was done he watched the end of practice in a black shirt and his uniform pants from the defensive sideline," Birkett added.
Campbell gave the 10-to-14-day timeline for Norris back on Aug. 11, so the high end of that puts Norris' possible return at Aug. 25, which is two days after the last preseason game on Aug. 23, and two days before final cuts on Aug. 27.
Whatever the case may be, it's just good to see Norris is getting better and in the process of returning to the field. Prior to his injury, Norris was vying for a depth role at safety.
