Barcelona midfield heavyweight secures a new agent; initial talks held with club over renewal

Barcelona midfielder and captain Frenkie de Jong has been able to resolve a serious problem that had been dragging on for many months.

The Dutch midfielder had been linked with agent Ali Dursun since the beginning of his career. However, in recent months, the player was working on ending his professional relationship with the Turkish-born representative after feeling deceived by him.

The problem was that De Jong had lost trust in Dursun and, in order to negotiate the renewal of his contract with Barcelona, which expires in June 2026, he first had to resolve his contractual ties with Dursun and find a new agent to represent his interests.

De Jong hires a new representative

Now, according to Mundo Deportivo, De Jong already has a new representative, who, like him, is also Dutch.

The midfielder’s new agent has already contacted Barcelona to introduce himself and to express his interest in holding a meeting with the club’s sporting director, Deco, with whom he has already had initial discussions about the player’s renewal.

Before dealing with the Dutchman’s renewal, Barça’s priority is to resolve the exits of three players not in the plans: Oriol Romeu, who could terminate his contract; Inaki Pena, who will renew and leave on loan; and Hector Fort, for whom the best solution is still being studied.

Barcelona also aim to complete the registrations of Gerard Martin, who is expected to be available for the match against Levante, and, next week, Wojciech Szczesny and Roony Bardghji, once the futures of Pena and Fort are clarified.

Barcelona were not in a hurry to address the midfielder’s renewal. However, if De Jong’s new agent pushes to meet soon and aligns with the parameters set by the club for the player’s extension, it cannot be ruled out that the matter may be resolved quickly.

As was the case with Jules Kounde’s renewal last week, Barcelona would also benefit in terms of Financial Fair Play. For now, however, there have only been initial contacts and good intentions.
