South Carolina got some devastating injury news at a position where depth is running a little thin. Head coach Shane Beamer revealed EDGE George Wilson will likely miss the entire 2025 season. Beamer expressed his disappointment in the situation when speaking to the media on Tuesday, feeling bad for Wilson.

“No new injury updates that are long-term other than George Wilson,” Beamer said. “An EDGE transfer that was going to play for us this season. He’s going to be out for a while as well, which is unfortunate. We’ve gotten hit pretty good at that one spot, which is disappointing from that standpoint, from a depth standpoint. A lot of guys there that are competing to get better and that’s what we’ll continue to do tomorrow.”

Wilson has been on a long journey in college football. After originally playing for Florida State in the ACC, he transferred to Campbell for the 2023 season. His performances over two years were good enough to once again attract interest from the power conference level.

South Carolina won out for his signature, hoping similar production — if not better — would come from Wilson. His 11 tackles from last season do not stand out but the Gamecocks would certainly take four sacks and a forced fumble.

Instead, there will be questions about where Wilson stands eligibility-wise. This was supposed to be his final season of college football, completing the three-school journey. Beamer says South Carolina will do whatever it takes to get Wilson back in the program, looking for a positive spin.

“We’ll see what happens this year,” Beamer said. “We’re already working to get him back in 2026 if we’re not able to get him back in 2025. Disappointing for him to not be ready to go right now and to be out for a little bit. Trying to find a positive in everything and what I told him is that maybe this is a positive beacuse you didn’t get here until June and now, if you’re not able to get back here in ’25, you have an entire offseason in the weight room where you should be an even better version of yourself in 2026.”

South Carolina will go into the opener against Virginia Tech hoping for good health at EDGE. Of course, they have one of the best out there in Dylan Stewart. Another monster year is expected out of the sophomore but others will need to step up.
