The Boston Red Sox are currently playoff-bound, but there are some problems starting to surface that might affect that. One of them is their bullpen, which in the past couple games has done very poorly.

They upgraded their bullpen with a trade for Steven Matz at the deadline, but it hasn’t done much. However, they still can upgrade through waivers. Fansided’s Christopher Kline believes they will, as if former Red Sox Kenley Jansen gets waived, they should acquire him.

“Jansen spent the last two years in Boston before signing a one-year contract with the Angels. He was an All-Star in 2023. While it's fair to quibble with the idea of pairing Jansen and Aroldis Chapman, two 37-year-olds, as the bullpen's primary anchor points in October, the production speaks for itself. Chapman has arguably been the best closer in MLB this season. Jansen isn't quite on that level, but he has a 2.74 ERA and 1.00 WHIP with 45 strikeouts and 23 saves in 45 appearances,” Kline wrote.

Jansen wouldn’t be the primary closer as Kline stated, as Chapman is having a legendary season for his age. But, it would help so much when the Sox need to close a game and can’t bring in Chapman as they need to rest him.

Jansen would essentially replace Liam Hendricks as the righty closer for the team. Hendricks has been out for months with injury, and the Sox would probably be a very different team if they had him.

Hopefully Jansen gets waived, and the Sox pounce on him. He would be a welcome face back in Boston, and would finally get to compete for a title.
