Liverpool Handed Major Rodrygo Boost Amid Real Madrid Uncertainty

Liverpool’s pursuit of Rodrygo has been given fresh encouragement, with the Real Madrid forward increasingly unsettled in Spain and Manchester City no longer in the frame for his signature.

Rodrygo’s Shifting Role at Real Madrid

Rodrygo played a remarkable 50 times across all competitions last season, starting 38 of those fixtures, yet his influence within the side diminished. The arrivals of Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappé altered the tactical balance under Carlo Ancelotti, forcing the Brazilian into less prominent roles. Matters have not improved under Xabi Alonso, who took charge in the summer, with the 24-year-old left on the bench for half of Real’s Club World Cup matches.

It is little surprise that frustration has grown. Spanish outlet Marca reported that Rodrygo was unhappy throughout the 2024/25 campaign, and it is now becoming clear that his future in Madrid is uncertain.

Liverpool Interest Strengthens

Liverpool are among the clubs monitoring developments closely. The Guardian revealed that Arsenal and Manchester City are also attentive, though Pep Guardiola’s side have effectively withdrawn from the race. Spanish journalist Guillem Balague explained that City will keep Savinho, previously linked with a move to Tottenham, removing the need to pursue Rodrygo.

“Manchester City have decided Savinho is to stay,” he said on X, formerly known as Twitter.“That kills any possibility of Rodrygo joining City (Real Madrid did not get an offer for him as it was depending on Savinho leaving).”

This has left Liverpool in a strong position should Madrid open the door to negotiations.

Anfield Attack Undergoing Changes

The Reds have been reshaping their forward line under Arne Slot. Luis Díaz completed a move to Bayern Munich earlier this summer, while Hugo Ekitike arrived from Eintracht Frankfurt as part of Liverpool’s long-term attacking rebuild. Slot has already guided Liverpool to a Premier League title in his debut campaign, and the Dutchman is determined to maintain momentum with further reinforcements.

Rodrygo would add Champions League-winning pedigree and proven versatility across the front line. His availability would also come at a time when the club continue to explore additional options, including Newcastle striker Alexander Isak. The Magpies rejected a £110 million bid and left Isak out of their opening league fixture against Aston Villa, sparking further speculation ahead of Sunday’s clash with Liverpool.

What Lies Ahead

For now, Rodrygo remains a Real Madrid player, but the circumstances are shifting quickly. A player who once seemed central to Madrid’s future could soon become one of the most sought-after forwards in Europe. Liverpool’s readiness to act may define whether the Brazilian’s next chapter unfolds at Anfield.
