The Cincinnati Bengals played Joe Burrow for the entire first quarter of Monday night's preseason game against the Washington Commanders. Although he walked off the field unharmed, he took a few unnecessary hits while under center.

Burrow had an MVP-caliber season with the Bengals in 2024, completing 70.6% of his passes for 4,918 yards with 43 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Cincinnati, however, missed the playoffs in large part because of its 1-4 start to the season. By playing Burrow and the offensive starters in the preseason, the Bengals are hoping to knock off any rust before September begins.

Last Thursday, the Bengals received an incredible performance from Burrow. He completed 9-of-10 passes for 123 yards with two touchdowns, picking up right where he left off last season.

Unfortunately for the Bengals, they were unable to protect Burrow during their second preseason game. He took two nasty hits on Monday night against the Commanders, which included a horse-collar tackle where he was thrown to the turf.

Aug 18, 2025; Landover, Maryland, USA; Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow (9) prepares to take to the field against the Washington Commanders during the first quarter at Northwest Stadium.

After Commanders defensive end Deatrich Wise Jr. chucked Burrow to the ground, NFL fans went on social media to share their thoughts.

Most fans are concerned for Burrow's health.

"Joe Burrow getting flung around like a rag doll in a preseason game," one fan commented.

"Joe Burrow is gonna go the way of Andrew Luck at this rate," a second fan said.

"This coaching staff is going to get Burrow killed.. what are they doing.. #1 & #5 look pissed on the sidelines.. maybe because they aren’t out there with Joe or that Joe is even playing," a third fan commented.

"If Joe Burrow gets hurt, Zac Taylor might be fired," another fan declared.

Burrow is going to face plenty of questions from the media about the unnecessary hits he took on Monday night.

While we don't want to knock Burrow's competitive nature, he has to be a bit smarter in the preseason. If the Bengals are going to contend for a Super Bowl this season, they need him to stay healthy. That won't happen if he's getting blasted every other drive.

Don't just take our word for it, Bengals offensive lineman Ted Karras referred to Burrow as the team's "hopes and dreams."

The Bengals will begin their 2025 regular season on Sept. 7 against the Cleveland Browns.
